FAQ

Below are answers to some of the questions we hear most often from clients and families. If you don’t see what you’re looking for, feel free to contact us directly.

Substance Abuse Recovery Coaching

What is recovery coaching, and how is it different from therapy?

Recovery coaching is a supportive, action-oriented partnership focused on helping clients build the skills, routines, and accountability needed to sustain recovery. Unlike therapy, coaching doesn’t diagnose or treat mental health conditions; it complements clinical treatment by focusing on day-to-day goals, motivation, and practical support.

Do I need to be sober before starting coaching?

Not necessarily. We work with clients at different stages of recovery, from those just beginning to consider change to those who have been sober for years and want ongoing support and accountability.

How often will we meet?

Session frequency is tailored to each client’s needs, ranging from frequent check-ins during early recovery to weekly or biweekly sessions for those further along in their journey.

Is coaching confidential?

Yes. We treat all client information with care and discretion. Any involvement of family members is discussed and agreed upon with the client first, except where safety concerns require otherwise.

Can family members be involved in the process?

Absolutely. Family involvement is often a key part of lasting recovery. We offer family coaching and education so loved ones can learn how to provide healthy support without enabling.

Process Addiction Coaching

What counts as a process addiction?

Process addictions, also called behavioral addictions, involve compulsive engagement in an activity despite negative consequences. Common examples include gambling, gaming, internet and electronics use, shopping, food-related behaviors, work, and sex or pornography.

How is coaching for process addictions different from substance abuse coaching?

The core coaching skills, accountability, healthy routines, and relapse prevention, are similar, but strategies are adapted to the specific behavior. For example, coaching around electronics addiction may include screen-time structure and device boundaries, while gambling coaching may focus on financial accountability and trigger management.

Can process addiction coaching help with more than one issue at once?

Yes. It’s common for clients to experience more than one process addiction, or a process addiction alongside substance use. We tailor each coaching plan to address the client’s full picture.

Is process addiction coaching only for adults?

We primarily work with adults and their families, though we’re happy to discuss your specific situation to determine the best fit and, if needed, provide referrals.

How do I know if coaching is the right step for my family?

If a loved one’s behavior around gambling, screens, spending, or other compulsive activities is affecting their relationships, responsibilities, or well-being, coaching can help. Reach out and we can talk through your situation together.
